Growing up on Vashon Island surrounded by water, I was immersed in flowing tributaries, wondering streams, and changing tides. Trajectories of rivers has always transfixed me, especially when visualized over time. This series is an ode to rivers and maps - lines and time and narratives depicting meandering waterways, laying sedimentary layer upon layer. These paintings tell the stories of Washington State’s rivers; from the Quinault and Elwah in the Olympics to the industrialized and scarred paths of the Columbia and Duwamish. This series is about the past, present and the future encapsulating our interconnected relationship to the environment and the environment’s relationship to us.
